After the win over Ness Ziona earlier this week, and following their win in the previous round of the EuroCup, Hapoel achieved their second consecutive EuroCup victory tonight (Wednesday) by defeating Hamburg 89-74 in their "home" game in Bulgaria.

Game Summary:
Hapoel "Bank Yahav" Jerusalem Starting Five: Speedy Smith, Jared Harper, Yovel Zoosman, Justin Smith, Austin Wiley.

Hapoel started strong with two three-pointers from Smith and Harper, followed by a basket from Zoosman, taking an 8-0 lead. The Germans got on the board with points from Ova and Rich, but a three-pointer from Harper kept Hapoel ahead. The first points from Noam Dovrat gave the Reds a six-point lead, but Ova and Rich kept the Germans close, with Or Cornelius ending the first quarter at 21-18 for Hapoel. Wiley and Smith opened the second quarter well, while Harper showcased his impressive ability to draw fouls and shoot steadily from the line. Points from Justin Smith pushed Hapoel to a double-digit lead, but the Germans responded with six straight points. Although Hapoel didn’t shine offensively in the first half, they maintained a good margin with strong inside play, finishing the half ahead 46-37 after three successful free throws from Harper.

Speedy in Defense

Yonatan Alon's team showed excellent defense coming out of the locker room, holding Hamburg scoreless for about four minutes, during which Johnson and Wiley scored 13 points. The Germans answered with two three-pointers, but a crucial three from Or Cornelius at the shot clock's end gave the Reds some breathing room. Gabi Tsachashvili made it 57-45 with points in the paint, but the visitors went on a 9-2 run, significantly reducing the deficit by the end of the third quarter, 59-54. Harper opened the final quarter with a successful drive, but Barnett answered with a three-pointer that cut the lead to just four. This time, it was the Reds' turn to go on a 9-2 run, capped by a three from Zoosman and several baskets off offensive rebounds. Rich slowed down the momentum with a three-pointer, but Hapoel, led by Wiley and Justin Smith, continued to dominate the paint, with Zoosman adding six consecutive points to make it 80-62. From there, the Germans couldn’t close the gap, as Wiley and Zoosman continued to improve their stats with a fantastic final quarter, leading to a 89-74 win.
