15/09/2024  | Post-Game
Like in their first game against Ness Ziona, Hapoel didn't have an easy night (Sunday) against Gilboa Galil at Gan Ner, but ultimately won 90:80 and secured their place in the quarter-finals from Group C of the Winner Cup. The reds once again showcased a flowing offensive game, and after scoring 94 points in the opening match, they reached close to 90 points again.

The Red Crowd

Game Summary
Hapoel Gilboa Galil’s starting five: Gil Beni, John Davis, Lotan Amsalem, Ben Mor, Emmanuel Nazcoasi.
Hapoel "Bank Yahav" Jerusalem’s starting five: Jared Harper, Yovel Zoosman, Chris Johnson, Jeremy Morgan, Austin Wiley.

Nazcoasi scored the first point of the game from the free-throw line, and Gil Beni followed with a three-pointer—4:0 for the hosts. Harper scored the first points for the reds from the capital, and Morgan equalized with two accurate free throws after an unsportsmanlike foul by Amsalem. The Jerusalem guard then added two three-pointers from NBA range, while Johnson received an assist from Wiley after cutting along the baseline, and Hapoel went up to 4:12. Gilboa Galil struggled against the Jerusalem defense, but Beni stopped the run with points after an offensive rebound and added a precise free throw on the next possession. Harper, with an excellent start, also hit from the free-throw line and took a break with 10 points—six minutes without a miss. Without their point guard, Hapoel looked a bit scattered, and Amsalem took advantage to reduce the score to 10:15. Carrington got into the action with a basket-and-one play, and Guy Lavi scored two from the line, but the visitors responded with baskets from Dovrat and Chachashvili, taking a double-digit lead. A crucial three-pointer from Davis narrowed the gap for Abraham's team at the end of the quarter—15:22 for Hapoel.

Jared Harper

Ness Ziona opened the second quarter with a steal and a fast-break layup, but Hapoel responded with two three-pointers from the left corner—by Zoosman and Johnson—while Levi continued to stay perfect from the line. A nice possession by the hosts ended with points from Nazcoasi in the paint, Zoosman replied with a successful drive, but couldn’t stop Morgan in the paint afterward. Carrington doubled his total with a three-pointer that restored the lead to eight, while on the other side, a great team play ended in a similar basket from Levi. The rims shook on both sides of the court, with Nazcoasi dunking after a turnover by the guests, immediately followed by an alley-oop from Harper to Wiley. Abraham's team showcased great coordination again as Morgan found Nitzia cutting along the baseline, but Carrington responded with a solo play on the other side, Cornelius added his first points from beyond the arc, and Abraham called a timeout. Davis scored a mid-range shot, answered by a tough drive from Harper, and a free throw from Morgan brought the teams to halftime at 35:43 for the guests.

Chris Johnson Finishing Layup

The second half opened with the reliable play from the reds: a three-pointer by Johnson from the corner, followed by Wiley adding a move in the paint, increasing his team’s lead to 13. The first points for Gilboa Galil in the quarter came from Mor, and Beni added a nice play afterward, but an assist from Harper to Johnson made it 39:50. From there, Abraham’s team launched a 2:11 run that began with three-pointers from Lavi and Beni, ending with a beautiful mid-range basket from Mor, narrowing it to 50:52. Davis added a nice layup after two points from Harper at the line. The reds responded with points from Wiley after a pass from Chachashvili—who also hit from beyond the arc—and along with points from Zoosman, they again pulled away to a double-digit lead at 52:62. Abraham called a timeout, and Nazcoasi returned with five consecutive points that halved the deficit, while points from Mor after another offensive rebound capped the quarter at 59:62 for Hapoel.

Deeno. Important points from the bench.

Ness Ziona hit a three-pointer from the corner to open the quarter and tied the score at 62:62. Hapoel, wanting to ensure their advancement to the quarter-finals, responded with an 11-0 run that began with a three-pointer from Carrington, continued with four quick points from Johnson on a fast break, and ended with another basket from the excellent Harper. Mor stopped the run with a mid-range shot, Lavi added a couple more, but Johnson was again in the right place with four points in response, keeping the visitors in double-digit territory. Carrington added another three-pointer, his third of the game, and Chachashvili contributed a steal and a dunk that established a 15-point lead and deflated the hosts. Hapoel’s big man added another encounter with the rim at Gan Ner after an assist from Zoosman.
