Jeremy Morgan's Arrival: A Significant Change for Hapoel

The addition of Jeremy Morgan represents an important shift from the style of basketball Hapoel has been accustomed to over the past two years. While Lewi Randolph was a creator in the 2-3 positions, Morgan is a different type of player—one who can perform many actions at a high level and is not specialized in one particular aspect. His primary role will be to be the "glue" that connects all the pieces together, contributing significantly even when the ball is not in his hands. Let’s get to know Jeremy a bit better.

Jeremy Morgan was born on May 8, 1995, in Coralville, Iowa. Like his new teammate Austin Wiley, Jeremy was born into a basketball family: his father Michael played at the University of Iowa in the 1980s, and his mother Kris played at Drake University. His sister, Michaela, was also part of the women's team at the University of Northern Iowa—where Jeremy also studied. After four years in college, he emerged as a professional basketball player while also completing a degree in Business Administration.

Morgan arrived at the University of Northern Iowa after winning the high school state championships for two consecutive years and being named Player of the Year. His final years in college were marked by significant breakout performances, showcasing the versatility that would define his career. In his senior year, he averaged 14.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, nearly 3 assists, 1.8 steals per game, and shot 36% from beyond the arc.

Jeremy began his European career from the ground up, starting in Finland's top league. Even then, he acquired the second label that would characterize his career: consistency. Throughout his years in Europe, with every team he played for and every league he was in, Morgan maintained double-digit scoring averages. This was true in Germany with Karlsruhe, in Italy with Trento, in two excellent years with Telekom Bonn, which also ended with a Champions League win (Morgan did not play in the Final Four in Malaga due to injury), and last season with Bourg, where he reached the EuroCup final against many of his former Bonn teammates who had moved to Paris Basketball.

At Hapoel, as mentioned, he is expected to be the type of player who bridges the backcourt and the frontcourt. In the past, Hapoel has had several excellent players who filled this exact role, including Derek Hamilton, Kelly McCarty, and Dijon Thompson—all of whom, like Morgan, were not specialized in one particular aspect of the game but could contribute in every requested area. To be such a player, you need primarily two main qualities: versatility and consistency. Sound familiar?
