Hapoel "Bank Yahav" Jerusalem is excited and proud to announce the signing of Dan Shamir as the club's General Manager and the appointment of Yonatan Alon as the Head Coach.
Hapoel is entering a new era with two figures who are deeply rooted in the club: Dan and Yonatan grew and developed from the most junior positions at Hapoel into top-level professionals in Israeli basketball. Dan began his professional journey 22 years ago as an assistant coach at Hapoel. His international career includes memorable periods alongside Ettore Messina at CSKA Moscow and Milan, and as a head coach, he won another state cup with Hapoel Holon in 2018, with Yonatan Alon as his assistant.
Dan Shamir said: "It is very exciting for me to return to the place where it all began. I had unforgettable moments at Hapoel, and I hope they will be joined by more experiences and achievements in the future. I look forward to starting to work in full cooperation with Yonatan as head coach and continuing to develop the excellent system being built here in all aspects, from laying the foundations for nurturing homegrown players to further investing in all the circles surrounding the team to create the best basketball system in Israel”.
Yonatan Alon started his career at Hapoel as a coach in the youth department and gradually developed into the role of assistant coach, working alongside the best coaches in the country, at Hapoel and elsewhere. In the past six months, Yonatan transitioned to the role of head coach and led the team to its eighth State Cup title. "I want to thank Matan Adelson and Gal Mekel for the opportunity," Yonatan said, "I am thrilled about Dan's appointment as GM and I am confident that together we will lead Hapoel towards its goals. There are many challenges ahead of us, but we trust the process”.
Owner Matan Adelson stated: "We are embarking on a new path with two top-level professionals who both grew up and were educated with the values of Hapoel Jerusalem. In the complex reality of our lives, we felt it was the right time to entrust the system to stable, experienced Israeli, Jerusalemite hands that will help us reach the goals we have set for ourselves. The fact that both of them are now at the helm of the professional system is something every Hapoel fan can and should be proud of".
