Wright was born in The Colony, Texas. He was a high school teammate of future NBA guard Deron Williams. He played college basketball for Indiana University for three years. He was named 2004 All-Big Ten First Team. In his junior season he led the Big Ten in scoring (18.3 points per game).

Wright was a member of the US National Team for the 2002 Global Games and for the FIBA Americas Under-20 Championship. He won gold medals with both teams.

Wright entered the 2005 NBA Draft and was selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves with the 47th pick. He Played seven games for the Timberwolves during the 2005/2006 season, and 19 games in the following season. In between, he was assigned to the Florida Flame of the D-League.

In 2007 Wright signed with Aris of the Greek League. He later played for Joventut Badalona (Spain), Oostende (Belgium), Paris Levallois (France), Cedevita Zagreb (Croatia), CAI Zaragoza (Spain) and Krasnye Krylia (Russia). In 2011 he lead Cedevita to the Eurocup Final Four. he was named All-Eurocup Second Team.

In January 2014 Wright signed with Hapoel Jerusalem.

The 2014/2015 finals MVP finished the finals, averaging 19 points. This season Wright averaged 13.9 points and 3.2 assists per game. His collaboration with Gaffney, that usually ended with an ali-op, has become a familiar scene in the Arena.
