Tonight was a must-win game for Hapoel, and despite great effort the team came up just short for a disappointing loss.  The Russians started the game with a quick lead but great play by Eliyahu and Wright allowed Jerusalem to even out the score 9-9 with four minutes to go in the first quarter. Both teams traded baskets throughout the second quarter, with exciting play by Gaffney who caught and dunked a beautiful alleyoop thrown by Wright. Also, Hapoel fans got to see new center Mensah-Bonsu play for the first time when he entered the game in the second quarter. Hapoel went into half time with a one point lead of 38-37. The Russians, led by Romeo Travis, executed well in the third quarter and they finished the quarter up by six with a score of 56-50. Hapoel opened up the fourth quarter with good energy and momentum, led by another alleyoop dunk slammed home this time by Gaffney. The Russia, however, continued to knock down three pointers which put them on top. Despite great effort by Jerusalem, the team came up just short with a final score of 69-67. Tonight's loss significantly limits the chances of Hapoel advancing to the next round of the Eurocup. Hapoel is looking forward to returning to Israel to play against Nes Tziona on November 30th.
